Actor Sam Neill was seen smiling in one of his final public appearances before his death at the age of 78.

The Jurassic Park star attended the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame Awards in Sydney, Australia, weeks before his death.

During the event, held in June, Neill appeared in a selfie alongside Australian singer Kate Ceberano and other guests. The actor also shared photos from the ceremony on social media, where he celebrated the artists who were honored.

Sam Neill’s death was announced by his family on Monday (13). According to the statement, his death was “sudden and unexpected,” and the actor was surrounded by family members in Sydney.

Known worldwide for playing paleontologist Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, Neill had a career spanning more than five decades, with appearances in films such as The Piano, The Hunt for Red October and the series Peaky Blinders.

In 2022, the actor revealed that he had been diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer. Months before his death, he said that he was free of the disease following treatment.
